Weight Training and Body Building

Weight Training, Body Building, pumpin' iron...what ever you choose to call it, it's worth noting that it's one of the best things you can do to increase your overall level of health and fitness. In Body-for-LIFE, Bill Phillips calls it the Training-for-LIFE Experience ™. The basic premise being that you do not simply do it...you live it!

By far the most important thing in sticking with a regular exercise program is to have a plan.  Few things will derail a good workout like confusion and indecision. Not to mention the fact that a bit of pre-workout thought about which exercises to do in what order is usually much more efficient in terms of how the muscle groups get worked.

Do yourself a huge favor...decide what your goals for a workout will be well in advance of the workout itself. Being in the gym should be a time of focus not head scratching.

6 Training Tips

1. Daily Training Guide - Download the EAS Exercise Guide

A nice, small notebook-sized chart for your workout planning. Know what you will be doing BEFORE you workout! Without a solid plan that is written down ahead of time we run the risk of too much "trial and error" in our weight training. Use these as the actual workout guide for body building.

2. Plan to Actual Analysis - FREE Reports

Always have a plan for weight trainingBody for LIFE Formatted Daily Progress Reports and exercise but also review where you've been. The Body-for-LIFE Program provides some great tools:

Formatted Daily Progress Reports

These will help you plan and record your daily progress.

This PDF file consists of your 12-week Training-for-LIFE ™ Schedule, the Eating-for-LIFE Method, the 20-Minute Aerobics Solution ™ and the Training-for-LIFE ™ Experience (Upper and Lower Body Building Workouts).

3. The High-Point Technique

As you know from reading Body-for-LIFE, working out is not so much what exercises we do but rather how we do them that makes the difference.

4. Don't worry about HOW MUCH you are lifting...only proper form counts:

One of the big things that keeps people out of a gym is the notion that: "everyone that goes to a health club is in great shape and capable of lifting massive amounts of weight." I don't think about what poundage of weight I'm using...except to note the amount so I can increase it later.

Concentrate on form...weight is not important in the grand scheme of things. It's ok to set goals, but don't sacrifice the basic principal of performing a movement perfectly in favor of boasting rights to a slightly higher iron content.

6. Search some good commercial sites

One of the best ways to keep up on new developments and techniques, research and reports, even trends and fashions is to peruse a few well stocked online stores. All the good ones have in-depth content areas with expert advice, articles, how-to instruction and much more!

Plus...and this is a big plus...most have clearance items or specials on their main pages which is a great way to stay supplied and save money.

Here are my favorites:

BodyTrends.com

Wow...if they don't have information on an item it probably doesn't exist.

And a Body-for-LIFE Fitness Store

A great search engine to hunt down things. Be sure to use it to just comb the site for the wealth of expert advice and reading material! Check out the Fitness Tips section.
